About us
Do you recognise the skills of the future?
Beyond the Skills is a UK-based learning and development company that creates experiential learning products for L&D professionals, facilitators, coaches and team leaders. We design hands-on challenges that help organisations develop future-ready skills including leadership, creativity, resilience, collaboration and self-awareness.
Experiential learning is the cornerstone of our ethos. Beyond the Skills focuses on the element of play in learning as individuals immerse in the experience.
Based in Wales, we work with facilitators around the globe to enhance experiential learning programmes with our products that deliver a wide range of learning outcomes to suit employees from entry-level to C-suite executives.
Who We Are
Gary Worgan spent years coaching cricket for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), developing players, and coaches, at every level. Good coaching, he noticed, was never really about the drill. It was about keeping people curious, challenged and invested - making the activity purposeful enough that the skill became part of them, not just something they performed under instruction. The best sessions were the ones that felt like play.
When Gary moved into corporate facilitation, working with organisations across the UK to develop their people, he noticed something. He would be sat in rooms watching talented people go through training that was quickly forgotten. Programmes that ticked boxes but didn't change behaviour. Middle managers leaving workshops with handouts they'd never open again. The gap between how sport builds skills through immersive, repeated, purposeful experience and how the workplace tried to do it, felt significant.
The idea that became Beyond the Skills took shape over coffee, in conversation with a group of like-minded facilitators who shared the same frustration. They wanted training that stuck. Gary had always been fascinated by games by designing them for family and friends long before he'd ever thought of turning it into a business. He’d been reading deeply into the research on how people actually learn. David Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle gave him the academic framework: that learning is most durable when it moves through concrete experience, reflection, and active application. Nancy Kline's thinking on Reflect, Connect, Apply gave him the human heart of it. Real change happens in the connect — that moment when a new idea meets a person's own values and becomes theirs. Beyond the skills, not just at them.
Where we’re going
Our vision is to enable facilitators to offer plug-and-play experiential learning challenges at every learning opportunity. Games that answer the needs to a modern organisation no matter the size or location.
